Certification & Accreditations
In the past 10-15 years there have great advancements in the world of Dog Behavior & Training. One of the most important areas of progress has been the emergence of professional organizations whose sole mission is to ensure that Trainers utilize scientifically sound and humane practices in their pursuit of balanced canine behavior. While these organizations can serve to certify and accredit established trainers and validate their practices, it is vital that dog owners understand the difference between a Professional Level Memberships and other membership levels that can be simply purchased. Let me explain. Anyone can purchase an Affiliate or Associate Membership to some these organizations and publish this on their business literature as a Member of that organization. However, in order to achieve Professional Level Membership a trainer must go through rigorous examination and pass stringent qualifying criteria before being considered for a Professional Level Membership. The moral to the story; when attempting to compare or research Trainers – be sure that you are educated to what it is you are looking for and that you are comparing “apples to apples”, so to speak. A Professionally Accredited and Certified Professional Trainer should be far more knowledgeable and educated than a “self-titled” Dog Trainer.
